Earth and Ocean Sciences extend over a diverse range of scientific disciplines, including Geology, Geophysics, Oceanography and Environmental Geoscience. The course is designed to allow students to follow one or more of these streams, including relevant field studies, to degree level.
Programme content
Year 1: Introduction to Earth and Ocean Sciences; Plus three from: Biology; Chemistry; Computer Science; Physics; Mathematics; Applied Mathematics
Year 2: Earth Sciences II, Introduction to Oceanography; Plus one from: Botany; Chemistry; Physics; Applied Mathematical Science; Zoology
Year 3: Fundamental Skills in EOS; plus three or four from: Environmental Geoscience; Marine Geoscience; Igneous and Metamorphic Petrology; Sediments and the Biosphere; Plus a choice from a range of Science modules
Year 4: EOS Field project/Research Survey; EOS Field trip to Anglesey; Three EOS Advanced modules
Entry Requirements
Students must present six subjects of which two must be at grade C or above at Advanced GCE (A-Level. The other subjects must be at least at grade C or above on GCSE or Advanced Subsidiary GCE (AS) papers. The six subjects must include: English, Mathematics, a Laboratory Science subject and a language other than English.
Students presenting only 3 A-Levels will be asked for AAB [or equivalent]
